City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments #1)

Title: City of Bones

Author: Cassandra Clare

My rating: 5 stars

City of Bones was an absolutely brilliant book. I now have a new crush on this series: The Mortal Instruments. Seriously, this book is awesome. It is the purest form of perfection. It is... okay, clearly my fangirling has reached a whole new level. But can you really blame me?

I am currently unable to find words to describe the marvellous plot so, you should just read it yourself. Meanwhile I will provide a very fangirly description of the characters.

Clary Fray
Clary was a great female lead because firstly, she was not the stereotypical damsel in distress. With red hair and green eyes, 15/16 yr old Clary is an amazing artist who is trying to find her mother after she disappears from their apartment in New York. She has a sense of humour, a temper (yay!) and is a truly commendable protagonist.

“I figured all your classes were stuff like Slaughter 101 and Beheading for Beginners."
Jace flipped a page. "Very funny, Fray.”

Jace Lightwood
Jace, Jace, Jace. Where do I begin? Th perfect-est and awesome-est character to have graced the literary world. I love Jace. Not like other 'dark, mysterious & brooding heroes', Jace is sarcastic, beautiful, amusing, funny and just plain adorable and awesome. He's also a bad-ass Shadowhunter with a lot of depth and a golden personality, I believe that Jace is a very engaging and lovable not to mention swoon-worthy character.

“Have you fallen in love with the wrong person yet?'
Jace said, "Unfortunately, Lady of the Haven, my one true love remains myself."
..."At least," she said, "you don't have to worry about rejection, Jace Wayland."
"Not necessarily. I turn myself down occasionally, just to keep it interesting.”

“The next time you're planning to injure yourself to get my attention, just remember that a little sweet talk works wonders."

“Is this the part where you start tearing off strips of your shirt to bind my wounds?"
"If you wanted me to rip my clothes off, you should have just asked.”

Simon Lewis

Simon was one of my favourite characters. He was extremely hilarious, witty, smart and cute and wasn't the 'usual' best friend that falls for the girl and agonizes over her, either. He was a very loyal and awesome character whom I also fell in love with. Some of my fave Simon quotes:

“That's why when major badasses greet each other in movies, they don't say anything, they just nod. The nod means, 'I' am a badass, and I recognize that you, too, are a badass,' but they don't say anything because they're Wolverine and Magneto and it would mess up their vibe to explain.”

“What?” Simon looked alarmed. ”I‘m not really sleeping with your mom, you know. I was just trying to get your attention. Not that your mom isn’t a very attractive woman for her age.”

Alec was incredible.Insecure, beautiful, meek, kind-hearted, envious and gay, Alec was a perfect, yes, PERFECT character. I love Cassandra Clare for creating this great character who had flaws which made him perfect, if you know what I mean.

“It's not funny, Jace," Alec interrupted, starting to his feet. "Are you just going to let her stand there and call me names?"

"Yes," Jace said kindly. "It'll do you good-- try to think of it as endurance training.”

Isabelle Lightwood
Isabelle was a great character too. She was a fierce warrior with gorgeous weapons and she was also feminine and girly and had a sense of humour too. She was an ideal character just like the others.

descriptiondescription   A  gorgeous immortal warlock with glittery hair, beautiful cat eyes, humour and awesomeness. Need I say more?

This book is the best book ever. Honestly. Read it. Then fangirl or fan-boy over it with me :-) I'm waiting ;-)
